Instagram account blocking ad campaigns

If your Instagram or Facebook account has personalized ads turned off, Meta will block ad creation and delivery for that account. This may prevent your campaigns from running properly across Meta’s platforms, including Instagram and Facebook.

Updated over a month ago

Why this happens

To run ads on Meta’s platforms, the connected account must have personalized ads enabled.

If an account has chosen to see less-personalised ads, Meta interprets this as personalised ads being turned off. In that case, any ad campaigns linked to that account will be paused or blocked.

You may see an error message such as:

“Because your account chose to see less-personalized ads, you cannot create ads.”

How to fix it

Option 1: Enable personalized ads

  1. Log in to the Instagram (or Facebook) account connected to your ad campaign.

  2. Go to Settings → Privacy → Ads (or Ad Preferences).

  3. Make sure personalised ads are enabled (you should not have “less-personalized ads” selected).

You can find more details in Meta’s guide:
👉 Manage your Ad Preferences on Facebook

Option 2: Run ads without the Instagram account

If you’re unable to enable personalized ads:

  1. Go to Meta Business Suite.

  2. Remove the Instagram account from your Business Portfolio.

  3. Run the campaign using only your Facebook Page instead.

Note: This may limit ad placements on Instagram, but allows campaigns to continue running on Facebook.
